Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh cabinet is set to hold discussions on determining the eligibility of social financiers, as revealed by Minister Kondapalli Srinivas. The minister disclosed that a sub-committee will be formed to investigate cases of ineligible individuals availing themselves of social pensions, with specific examples including two-wheeler drivers receiving disability pensions of Rs. 15,000.
Addressing Social Pension Misuse
Minister Srinivas pointed out that a growing number of ineligible individuals in the state have been drawing social pensions, which calls for urgent action. “Some individuals who are not qualified, including those who drive two-wheelers, are wrongfully benefiting from disability pensions. This needs to be addressed to ensure that benefits reach the deserving,” he said.
The cabinet’s upcoming discussions will focus on setting clear criteria to prevent further misuse of the social pension system, ensuring that government aid reaches the truly needy.
Dwakra to Micro-Entrepreneurs: A New Vision
The minister also highlighted a new initiative by the NDA government aimed at empowering women through the Dwakra (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups. The plan is to transform these groups into micro-entrepreneurs across the state, with Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) set to be established in 10 districts to support the cause.
“More than 1,000 products manufactured by Dwakra women will receive dedicated marketing support, opening new opportunities for women entrepreneurs,” Srinivas stated.
Land Allotment and Marketing Support
As part of these efforts, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has agreed to allocate 10 acres of land in Amaravati for the exhibition of Dwakra products, offering the women a platform to showcase and sell their goods. This is expected to enhance the visibility and market reach of their products across Andhra Pradesh.
Strinnidhi Bank Investigation
Minister Srinivas also discussed irregularities related to the Strinnidhi Bank, which is linked to Dwakra Sanghas. He alleged that during the previous government’s tenure, Rs. 950 crores were diverted from Strinnidhi Bank to PD accounts, with an additional Rs. 500 crores being transferred just a month before elections. This resulted in the bank accumulating significant debt, and an inquiry has now been initiated to investigate these financial misappropriations.
