Amaravati: Harish Kumar Gupta, a 1992 batch IPS officer and current Director General of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department, is expected to be appointed as the next Director General of Police (DGP) for Andhra Pradesh. This follows the resignation of the current DGP, Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, set for January 31.
Sources suggest that Tirumala Rao, who is also holding additional charge as Managing Director of RTC, is likely to continue in that role after his retirement. Harish Kumar Gupta previously served as the DGP during the general elections, appointed by the Election Commission. However, after the NDA-led government came to power, Tirumala Rao was named the DGP.
While Madireddy Pratap, Director General of the Fire Department and a 1991 batch officer, tops the seniority list, Harish Kumar Gupta is second in line, making his appointment highly probable.
The announcement regarding the new DGP is anticipated soon, marking a significant leadership transition in the state’s police force.
