Amaravati: Former Home Minister Anitha criticized the Jagan-led government for its alleged failure to address increasing crimes against women effectively. Speaking on the fifth day of the Legislative Council meeting, she raised concerns about the state’s lack of action despite claims of implementing the Disha Act.
Anitha questioned the legitimacy of the Disha Act, comparing it to the existing Nirbhaya Act. “If the Disha App and Act are effective, why are crimes against women rising? The police claim to arrest criminals swiftly, but systemic failures persist,” she remarked.
She highlighted alleged lapses during the current administration, pointing to incidents such as the gang-rape of a Dalit woman near the newly opened Disha Police Station in Rajamahendravaram. “Setting up Disha Police Stations without legal backing is mere optics. Crimes are increasing despite the so-called measures,” she added.
Anitha also criticized delays in establishing the forensic lab sanctioned by the central government in Amaravati, stating that timely completion could expedite justice for victims.
She further accused the ruling government of mismanagement and neglect, alleging that resources were diverted for non-priority activities while women’s safety issues remained unresolved.
