Online Desk: A video of Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata playing baseball aboard the International Space Station (ISS) has gone viral after SpaceX CEO Elon Musk shared it on social media platform X.
In the video, Koichi Wakata, a veteran astronaut from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), is seen using zero gravity to throw and hit a baseball inside the ISS. Sharing the video, Wakata mentioned, “It’s baseball season! With the Major League Baseball season starting in Japan, I played ISS baseball during Expedition 68. There’s no better way to enjoy baseball in zero gravity!” Musk reposted the clip, further boosting its popularity.
Wakata, who retired from JAXA in 2024, had an illustrious career spanning five space missions and 500 days in space. He also made history by becoming the first Japanese commander of the ISS during Expedition 39.
Meanwhile, SpaceX recently made headlines for successfully bringing back astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore to Earth after their extended stay on the ISS.
