Vijayawada: Food safety officials conducted surprise raids on several eateries in Vijayawada today, targeting establishments in the Eat Street area opposite the Vijayawada Bus Stand.
During the raids, officials discovered over 20 kg of stored meat and vegetarian food, valued at ten thousand rupees. Samples of biryani rice were also collected for testing. All seized food items were destroyed using phenol to ensure they were not consumed.
District Assistant Food Safety Controller Shaik Gouse Mohuddin led the inspections. He emphasized the importance of compliance with Food Safety Authority regulations.
“Hotels, restaurants, and food manufacturers must obtain proper licenses and adhere to the prescribed rules. Many restaurants are at liberty to use prohibited food colors. Stale meat is being preserved in refrigerators. We have destroyed huge stocks today,” Shaik Gouse Mohuddin said.
The raids, which will continue regularly, aim to ensure that food establishments maintain high standards of hygiene and safety, he added.
Food Safety Officer Shrikant Choudhary and other staff members participated in the operation, reinforcing the commitment to safeguarding public health.
