Anantapur: BC Welfare Minister Savitha has accused the YSRCP government of attempting to create regional divides by including Valmiki community members from select areas in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list. Speaking at the state-level celebrations of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti in Anantapur on Thursday, the minister pointed out that while former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had passed a resolution in the Assembly for the inclusion of Valmikis in the ST list and presented it to Parliament, the succeeding YSRCP government allegedly sought to manipulate the process.
Minister Savitha emphasized that the state government, as promised before the elections, is officially celebrating Valmiki Jayanti in Anantapur to honor the contributions of Maharshi Valmiki. She highlighted that Valmiki’s Ramayana imparted crucial lessons about family values to the world. The minister also reaffirmed the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) commitment to the welfare of the Backward Classes (BCs), stating that TDP is the “party of BCs.” She announced plans to construct BC community buildings in every district and revive BC Study Circles to support youth development.
The event also saw Rayadurgam MLA Kalava Srinivasu move a resolution urging the central and state governments to work towards including Valmikis in the ST list, which was approved. Several prominent figures, including MLAs Paritala Sunitha, Bandaru Shravanishree, TDEPA District President Venkatashivudu Yadav, and State BC Welfare Secretary Pola Bhaskar, attended the celebrations.
