SRINAGAR: In a significant milestone for India’s railway network, a specially designed Vande Bharat Express train successfully completed its trial run from Mata Vaishno Devi Railway Station in Katra to Srinagar. This marks a historic step in connecting Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India through modern rail infrastructure.
During the trial, the train traversed the world’s highest railway bridge, the Chenab Bridge, capturing attention with breathtaking views. This engineering marvel is part of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Project, aimed at integrating the region with India’s broader rail network.
The Chenab Bridge, standing at an impressive 359 meters above the riverbed and stretching 1,315 meters in length, has set a world record. It surpasses China’s Shubai Railway Bridge, which previously held the record at 275 meters above the Beipan River.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off regular Vande Bharat train services between Katra and Baramulla soon, marking a new era in connectivity and development for Jammu and Kashmir.
