On the 23rd of April, Saturday, 1 person died and 3 people were injured in an explosive incident in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.  The incident took place when the batteries of an electric two-wheeler, which were kept on charging, exploded.  It is to be noted, that the victim bought the electric scooter, Corbett 14, on the 22nd of April.

As per the initial investigation, Shiva Kumar (40 years old,) his wife Harathi (30 years old) and their two children Bindu Sri (10 years old) and Sasi (6 years old) sustained burn injuries and were shifted to a nearby private hospital, where Shiva Kumar succumbed to his injuries.  Furthermore, Harathi Kumar is said to be in a critical condition.

Suryaraopet circle inspector Mr. V. Janaki Ramaiah Siva Kumar said, “The vehicle was in the front room and they slept in the room behind it when the battery exploded at around 3 a.m..   Following the explosion, the electric wiring of the house got burnt emanating smoke.   In a hurry, the family moved to the kitchen and were stuck as there was no exit.”

As of now, the police registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, in the past week, this is the second such incident that has been reported in the Telugu states.  A similar incident was reported on the 19th of  April, in Nizamabad, Telangana. An 80-year-old man was killed and two others received serious injuries when an electrical vehicle’s batteries, which were kept on charging, exploded.
