In a brave move, a 10 year old girl saved her younger sister from abuse by her neighbor. On Thursday in Pimpri of Pune, a 54 year old neighbor tried to lure a six year old with chocolates into his home. The elder sister showed courage and followed the girl into his home. The girl then raised an alarm when the man tried to assault her sister.
The victim’s mother then alerted the police, who identified the accused as Yashodharan Gopal. The older man hails from Kerala and has been living in the girl’s neighborhood for quite some time. Under the filed complaint, the police have registered IPC section 354 and booked him under the POCSO Act.
Ratna Sawant, the Sub-Inspector of Pimpri Police station, who is handling the case speaking to the Pune Mirror news daily said that “Since it was Republic Day, the children had come back from school early. Their parents had gone out and they were playing in front of the house when Gopal came to the spot and offered chocolate to the six year old girl. He then asked her to come to his house.”
After the girl followed her sister into the accused’s house, the police said, “Getting suspicious, the girl went to the window of the house. Looking in, she saw her sister pinned down under Gopal. As she raised an alarm, Gopal let the victim go. She ran out of the house, crying.” He also added that “At night, the girls narrated the whole incident to their parents. Initially, their mother scolded them for going to Gopal’s house in the first place. But later, understanding the gravity of the situation, they approached the police on Friday.”
Gopal was arrested in an inebriated state by the police and is under arrest at the Pimpri Police station in Pune.
