In a move to track and mark attendance, the Delhi University will now keep a track not only on paper but also through a mobile application. This is a second mobile application for DU after the admission process tracking. A seven member committee was formed by the University with the goal of developing the required software for the mobile app. This application they hope will maintain accountability and also transparency in the system.

A senior official told the Press Trust of India (PTI,) “The project has been going on for around six months now and the app is expected to be launched next month. This will help teachers keep a tab on daily class strength and show the percentage of attendance to help them inform the students about the shortage in advance.”

The teachers have been maintaining attendance manually like all other colleges and universities till date. Few colleges like Hindu, Zakir Hussain College, IP College for Women and Miranda House used to update every students attendance on their website every month. From the next academic year this will be done through the mobile application. The official also said, “But after the app is launched, teachers will update the attendance on the app on a daily basis. Attendance data is very crucial for students, especially at the time of issuance of admit cards for exams. Students always come up with complaints that teachers have not maintained accurate attendance sheets.”

Following a mock test system for online admissions, the University made the process of undergraduate admissions online and also are now providing digital mark sheets to the students. The application will be used not only by the departments of the University but also all the 68 colleges that are affiliated to the University.
