Rajasthan: Four minor girls between two years and 12 years were secretly married in a ceremony in Gajuna village of Bhilwara district in Rajasthan, while the police and local administration were having a nap.
The groom were also identified to be minors. The marriage reportedly took place on Feburary 23 in the family of Madan Nath. On Friday, the two-year-old girl’s uncle Kupa Rawala told the Child Welfare Committee in Bhilwara that his bhabhi(sister-in-law) and her brothers had married the girls off secretly.
Kriti Bharti, an activist based in Jodhpur who works for annulment of child marriages, said the police could have registered an FIR under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 taking suo motu cognizance of the newspaper report.
