On Thursday, Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was appointed the national president of the Samajwadi Party at the national convention in Agra.
The party also amended its constitution to extend the tenure of the chief from three years to five years. This change will allow Yadav to be part of 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in 2022.
Senior party leader Ram Goyal Yadav announced Akhilesh’s appointment at the national convention. The meeting was attended by more than 12,000 party members from different states.
The party will be discussing their strategy for the General Elections in 2019 and address possible alliances for the assembly polls in 2022.
There was news of Akhilesh having a clash with his uncle and member of Samajwadi Party Shivpal Singh Yadav but the issue seems to have been solved. Akhilesh said he received well wishes from his uncle and said, “Sometimes my age and relation works to my advantage. He (Shivpal) gave me blessings and congratulated me.”
