The Goods and Services Tax (GST,) the biggest tax reform since independence will be launched on June 30th midnight. The launch was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Arun Jaitley addressed the GST and said that President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his two predecessors Dr. Manmohan Singh and H.D. Deve Gowda will be present for the launch on the stage at the center hall of parliament.

Narendra Modi will also deliver a speech at the gathering of parliamentarians. All the Chief Ministers from the country will be invited to the special launch.

Arun Jaitley has repeatedly stated the GST launch will not be delayed, as a few states had requested it like West Bengal.

He was quoted saying, “When you go in for reforms, you must never blink. If you blink you get derailed.”

The government has informed the GST will add 2% points to our economic growth.

The GST is a four tier tax system, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. According to the GST sanitary napkins are taxed at the 12% tier.

At present in India, only 12% of menstruating women use sanitary napkins while others resort to unhealthy methods. The GST seems to have been developed in the midst of only men who have forgotten the importance of a woman.

Sindoor, condoms, contraception have been made tax free along with basic food amenities but sanitary napkins remain on the second level of taxation.
