Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, has been placed under extended judicial custody following allegations of non-cooperation in the ongoing liquor scam investigation, as reported by the CBI. The investigative agency, in its remand application, accused Kejriwal of providing evasive responses during questioning. After concluding a three-day custodial interrogation, Kejriwal was presented before the court on Saturday.
The court, acknowledging concerns about potential witness tampering, granted the CBI’s request for an additional 14 days of custody to further investigate Kejriwal’s involvement in the alleged scam. Kejriwal allegedly refused to provide satisfactory explanations regarding meetings conducted by his aide, Vijay Nair, with stakeholders in Delhi’s liquor business, including interactions with Magunta Srinivasulureddy and others.
The CBI informed the court of pending examinations of crucial evidence and collection of documents essential to the case. Special Judge Sunena Sharma, while ordering judicial custody until July 12, emphasized the seriousness of the charges and the involvement of multiple individuals in the alleged misuse of funds.
