The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is going to file a review plea against the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding the Ayodhya land dispute case.

Zafaryab Jilani, the Secretary of the AIMPLB, on the 27th of November, said, “The board is firm on its decision to file a review petition in the Supreme Court and we have time till December 9 for doing so.”

The Supreme Court, on the 9th of November, pronounced its verdict on the years old Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case.  The verdict was in favour of the Hindus, whereas the Apex Court announced an alternative land of 5 acres would be given to the Muslims for the construction of a mosque.

Unhappy with the verdict, the AIMPLB decided to file a petition against the SC’s decision.  Though the Sunni Waqf Board, on the 26th of November, refused to file any case against the SC’s decision, they said they are not sure about accepting the 5 acre land provided to them.

When asked if the refusal of the Sunni Waqf Board for a petition would affect the petition filed by the AIMPLB, Mr. Jilani said, “Exercising our constitutional right, we are going to file a review petition in the Babri Masjid case during the first week of December. Sunni Waqf Board’s decision not to pursue the case won’t legally affect us. All Muslim organizations are on the same page.”

He further said, “The date for filing the review petition cannot be announced as of now as it is yet to be decided on whose behalf it will be filed.”

Though the date to file the review petition is not yet finalised, it would be before the 9th of December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
