The RETs will be constructed on the existing runway so as to enable easy flow of the traffic from 38 planes to 48 planes per hour. The airport is expected to be up and running by the time monsoon begins. The Airport authorities said that the 6 and half hour closure will not affect the airport operations. It is the third busiest airport in the country and is planning on enhancing the flight holding capacity. All the flight schedules have been put in and managed by the Air Traffic Control and also has taken permissions from Aviation Ministry.

Though there is no confirmation from the Bengaluru Airports Authorities all the booking and airlines websites do not show any flights during these hours in the two and half months window. The runway is also being closed in between February 9-18 so as to enable rehearsals for the Aero India 2017 show.
