Since the past few days, Bihar has been recording heavy rains, which killed 27 people in the State.

 On the 30th of September, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rains in 24 districts of Bihar in the next 24 hours.

The Nitish Kumar led State Government deployed 19 National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) teams for rescue operations in Bihar and Jharkhand.

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, visited the most vulnerable flood affected areas and monitored the rescue operations.

According to sources, since the 28th of September, the State received 151 mm rainfall, disrupting the lives of the residents.

After the red alert of the IMD, schools and educational institutions announced they would remain closed till the 1st of October.

The situation worsened after many areas were submerged, with water rising up to the chest.  The State Government urged the Indian Air Force (IAF) to supply medicines and food with the help of helicopters and also help in the rescue operations.

The rescue operations are still underway in Patna, Bihar.

Apart from Patna, the situation is bad in Uttar Pradesh (UP) as well.  Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of UP, is also closely monitoring the situation and ordered government officials not be allowed to take leaves.

In the past few days, UP witnessed 87 deaths due to heavy rainfall, whereas many people were evacuated from their residences.

The NDRF and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are still conducting the rescue operations.
