BJP Leader And Former Minister Yashwant Singh Joins TMC Today

On the 13th of March, Yashwant Sinha, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader joined the opposition, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal.  Mr. Sinha’s joining came at a time when both the BJP and the TMC, are competing to secure a majority of seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The Former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Yashwant Sinha left the BJP in 2018.

The joining of Mr. Sinha came days after Mamata Banerjee was attacked by some unidentified goons while campaigning.   Yashwant Sinha even criticised the BJP for the attack, which happened in Nandigram and left Ms. Banerjee injured.

Mr. Sinha said, “Shame on BJP. Instead of sympathising with Mamata injured in an attack they are making fun of it.”

He also said, “The battle for Bengal is the battle for India.  The voters in Bengal will vote for the future of India in this election.”

Taking a dig at the methodology of the BJP, Mr. Sinha said, “(The) BJP during Atal Ji’s time believed in consensus but today’s Government believes in crushing & conquering. Akalis, BJD have left the BJP.  Today, who is standing with BJP? The tipping point was the attack on Mamata Ji in Nandigram. It was the moment of decision to join (the) TMC and support Mamata Ji.  (sic.)”

Yashwant Sinha formally joins Trinamool Congress in the presence of MPs Sudip Bandopadhyay, Derek O’ Brian and state panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee.

The TMC joining event was held at Trinamool Congress Bhavan in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the State is preparing for the upcoming 8 phases Assembly elections.  The elections for 294 Assembly constituencies would begin from the 27th of March and would conclude on the 29th of April.

The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections would be announced on the 2nd of May.
