BJP slams opposition for disrupting ‘National Anthem’

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly budget session started on Monday. The BJP alleged that the opposition parties ‘insulted the national anthem’ by causing disruptions as the house proceedings started. As Governor N.N. Vohra was readying to address the joint meeting, the opposition interrupted by shouting slogans against the PDP-BJP for the ongoing unrest in the state. When they did not comply, the governor wrapped up his speech and left.

BJP MLA Ravinder Raina said,”The National Conference (NC) and the Congress created a ruckus in the J&K assembly even when the National Anthem was (being) played; even the Governor walked away. This is a grave insult.” He also added that National Congress, the Congress, and the Governor should apologize for insulting the National Anthem.

The J&K Assembly is predicted to be a stormy one, the party made it clear their intention to disrupt the sessions and corner the government about the law and order situation and longstanding unrest situation in the state.

J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir said, “Congress would play the role of a vibrant opposition in both the Houses and make the government accountable for all commitments made by the two coalitions partners, as well as its total failures on almost all fronts. He added, “As the opposition, we have every right to ask questions to the government and seek answers on behalf of the people.”

But BJP minister Naeem Akhtar feels that the slogan shouting is unproductive and will only cause disruptions. He mocked the opposition saying, shouting slogans is the only argument the opposition is left with in the absence of proper argument.
