Days after resigning as the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh met with Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister.

The meeting was held on the evening of the 29th of September, Wednesday, at the official residence of Mr. Amit Shah.

According to sources, during the meeting, the former Chief Minister of Punjab discussed the farm laws and its issues. He also urged the Central Government to repeal the laws and resolve the matter which is now continuing for more than 12 months.

After the meeting, Mr. Amarinder Singh took to his official Twitter handle and said, “Met Union Home Minister @AmitShah ji in Delhi. Discussed the prolonged farmers agitation against #FarmLaws & urged him to resolve the crisis urgently with repeal of the laws & guarantee MSP, besides supporting Punjab in crop diversification. #NoFarmersNoFood.”

Besides the farm issues, the leaders also discussed national security, farmers agitation and current political situation in Punjab. The timing of the meeting created a buzz amongst political leaders, which could be a major twist in the politics of Punjab.

The Indian National Congress (INC) who has recently resigned as the Punjab CM is speculated to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.) However, neither the BJP nor Mr. Amarinder Singh said anything about the joining.

The developments came at a time when Punjab is set to conduct the General Assembly elections in 2022. This time, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP,) the ruling Government of Delhi is also going to contest the elections against the BJP and the Indian National Congress.

The Punjab Assembly election for 117 seats is scheduled to be held in 2022.
