Centre Reshuffles Top Officials, Rajiv Guaba As Home Secretary

On Wednesday, the BJP government reshuffled the top bureaucracy. They appointed Rajiv Guaba as Home Secretary, and Subhash Garg as Secretary, Economic Affairs, in the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

There were 17 vacancies, that included Telecommunications, Power, Personnel, Economic Affairs, and Shipping. The government appointed officials to these posts.

Home Secretary Gauba is a 1982 IAS officer and has been working as the Secretary of Urban Development. He has been now appointed as official on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs. After Rajiv Mehrishi’s two year term ends, Gauba will take over as Secretary of the MHA in August.

The government has appointed Rajasthan cadre’s Mr. Subhash Garg who is currently Executive Director of the World Bank for the Department of Economic Affairs (DCA). Garg’s appointment was predicted beforehand in the MoF as he is close to the present cadets. He was also appointed as ED of World Bank when Modi came to power in 2014.

Secretary Information Technology, Aruna Sundararajan has been appointed as Secretary, Telecommunication, which she was handling as an additional charge. Ajay Mittal, Secretary, Information, and Broadcasting, has been appointed new Secretary, Personnel, in place of B.P. Sharma, who is superannuating this month.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Director-General, Foreign Trade, has been appointed Secretary, Power Ministry, and will assume power on June 30.
