India is continuously witnessing a rise in the cases of the Novel Coronavirus. While on the 30th of April, the cases recorded were more than 1,900, on the 1st of May, the numbers jumped to 2,293.
On the 1st of May, India reported 2,293 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 71 new deaths due to the infection.
As of 10:00 A.M., on the 2nd of May, India has a total of 37,336 positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus and claimed 1,218 lives in the country.
Considering the increased numbers, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) extended the nation wide lockdown by 2 more weeks. However, the third lockdown would be with an easing of certain restrictions in the areas designated as Green Zones.
For what is being termed as lockdown 3.0, the Union Home Ministry divided India into three parts, Red, Orange and Green zones, based on the number of positive coronavirus cases.
According to the MHA, there are a total of 130 containment zones or Red zones, 284 Orange zones and 319 Green zones across India. The lockdown would come into effect from the 4th of May, a day after the second lockdown would end. In addition, shopping malls, gyms, railways, airways, inter state movement, cinema halls, restaurants, public gatherings and cultural events are banned for every zone in India.
The orders regarding the same were issued on the 1st of May under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
