The Indian National Congress (INC) is likely to consider a proposal to hold organisational elections between the 15th of May to the 30th of May.

Most recently, 23 leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Bhupinder Hooda, Prithviraj Chavan, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari and Mukul Wasnik had written to the Congress leadership seeking a full-time leadership for the grand old party.

The organisational election of the INC would be for the new President of the INC.

In regard to this, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is scheduled to conduct a meeting on the afternoon of the 22nd of January.

The Party functionaries confirmed the same on the evening of the 21st of January.

In addition to the organisational polls, the INC is likely to hold the internal polls in February 2021.

The meeting started with Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC’s opening remarks about the ongoing farm stir and the coronavirus pandemic.

Ms. Gandhi took over charges as the INC President after the resignation of Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the INC.

Ms. Gandhi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government over leaked whatsApp chat of Republic TV Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami. She said, the leaked WhatsApp between Mr. Goswami and a top Security official over the Balakot airstrike is a sensitive matter, questioning the national security.

She also blamed PM Narendra Modi led BJP of compromising Nation’s security and deemed their silence as a deafening act.

The INC President also demanded a probe into the matter.

Later in the ongoing meeting, the CWC would debate the farmers’ protests against the three farm laws.

They would also discuss the move of the INC with a demand to repeal the laws a day after farmer bodies rejected the government’s proposal to put the laws in abeyance for up to 18 months.

Thousands of farmers are protesting against the Central Government implemented three farm laws.

The CWC meeting is underway, more details awaited.

Stay tuned for further updates.
