On the 28th of October, the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded in Delhi touched 358, falling under the ‘very poor’ category.

A day after Diwali, at 7:00 A.M., the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said Anand Vihar in Delhi recorded the worst AQI, 358.

Although the AQI improved compared to last year, which was 642, the AQI is said to be very poor and is expected to worsen in the coming days.

In the National Capital Region (NCR,) Noida recorded an AQI of 386 in Sector 1, while Gurugram recorded an AQI of 352.

According to the CPCB, AQI between 0 to 50 is considered ‘good,’ 51 to 100 is ‘satisfactory,’ 101 to 200 is ‘moderate,’ 201 to 300 is ‘poor,’ 301 to 400 is ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 is ‘severe.’  If the AQI recorded is above 500, then it belongs to the ‘severe plus emergency’ category.

The worst AQI in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow was 339.  In Meerut, it was 341 in Pallavpuram Phase 2, whereas Haryana’s Panchkula recorded an AQI of 274 in Sector 6.  However, the AQI in Sonipat was moderate at 143.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded an AQI of 282 and Ludhiana, 306.

In Bihar, Patna had a poor AQI, Mumbai had satisfactory to moderate, whereas in Kolkata and Chennai, the air quality was moderate.
