Diwali is just a week away and the Delhi government announced on Thursday that the Environment and Forest Department will send out teams to ensure that firecrackers are not being sold in markets across the city.
On Monday, the Supreme Court had banned the sale of firecrackers in the national capital till the 1st of November.
Delhi Environment and Forest Minister Imran Hussain reviewed on Thursday the air quality in the city during the burning of crop residue and the decreasing temperatures that are leading to an increase in pollution levels.
The Environment Department officials will patrol the markets in the city and report violations to the Delhi police. The Delhi police will take charge as they provide temporary licenses to firecracker sellers.
The government will also be taking other measures to control pollution by taking action against the open burning of waste and dust pollution from constructions.
