The Election Commission of India (ECI,) is scheduled to inspect polling preparation in West Bengal. 

West Bengal is set to conduct the Assembly elections in 2021. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eying the West Bengal elections with an aim to establish itself in the State.

The current ruling party in West Bengal is the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Party.

According to sources, a team of the poll panel led by Sudeep Jain, the Deputy Election Commissioner, on the 16th of December reached West Bengal.

On the 17th of December, Mr. Jain is likely to meet with a few senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Public Service (IPS) officers including the district magistrates, superintendents of police (SPs) and police commissioners (CPs) in various districts of south and north Bengal. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:00 A.M.

During the three day visit, Mr. Jain would also hold a meeting with Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, the Home Secretary H.K. Dwivedi, the Health Secretary N.S.Nigam and the Director General of Police Virendra.

The Sudeep Jain led team would be in West Bengal until the 19th of December.

A senior officer of the poll panel team said, “An EC team has come from Delhi. The team would be taking stock of the poll preparedness and holding meetings with bureaucrats and police officials. They are also likely to meet representatives of political parties in the State.”

In addition, the panel also started checking all 78,000 odd polling booths in West Bengal.

The West Bengal elections for 294 Assembly seats are due in 2021 April-May.
