In a humiliating move, the Election Commission warned AAP party Chief Aravind Kejriwal, to not associate the party’s poor performance to EVM tampering. On Sunday, the EC said that the party should introspect as to why it did not perform according to expectations in the Assembly Elections of 2017 in Punjab.
The EC in a strongly worded letter to the party said, “No credible material had been brought to the knowledge of authorities during and at the time of EVM “mock drills” in Punjab elections to show alleged tampering in EVMs used in the State.”
On Saturday, Aravind Kejriwal has requested the EC to probe into faulty EVMs and to find if there were any software tweaks so as to divert votes to the PM Modi-led BJP. The EC in response to this argument said that the SC had never had any doubt about EVMs tampering and said to AAP that, “The commission strongly objects to this wrong and imaginary extrapolation of the order. This may please be noted as a responsible political party. Any surmise based on foreign studies or operating system based EVMs used elsewhere would be completely erroneous.”
After the Punjab Poll results were announced, the AAP party created a ruckus and approached the EC about the reliability of the machines and their effect on the polls. Aravind Kejriwal predicted a win of 100 seats out of 117, but won only 20 seats but yet emerged as the single largest opposition party.
In a response to the EC’s letter, AAP said that instead of taking action, the EC has issued a political statement which is not the proper course of action.
