In a major political drama, a clash broke out between two groups, supporters of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and O Panneerselvam, over the ongoing dual leadership issue.
Notably, on July 11, the AIADMK elected Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami its interim general secretary, and expelled O Panneerselvam from the primary membership. After the fight due to the end of dual-leadership, the Revenue authorities sealed the party headquarters.
The principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu is facing its biggest challenge now in the absence of a charismatic leader at the helm. It is likely to witness further turmoil when O Panneerselvam, miserably outnumbered in popular support within the party, drags the affairs to the courts and the Election Commission of India.
