Vinod Palyekar, Minister for Goa Water Resources Department on Tuesday had said that all night parties are not a part of Goan Culture. In relation to this, he said all night parties in Goa should be banned.

The minister also said that it is through these night parties that the usage of drugs has increased in the State affecting the youth. Hence a statewide ban is imperative. Palyekar speaking to media had said, “Late night parties should be banned in Goa. Though our State runs on tourism, but under the garb of tourism, drugs are being supplied. This is adversely affecting our youth. If you visit the coastal areas (then) you can see how the youth are getting ruined because of this.”

He also said that he is in talks with CM Manohar Parrikar about the issue, and said that the Goa police should ensure that rave parties should not happen in the State. The minister said, “I have given strict instructions to the police that if such rave parties continue, the police inspector of that particular area will be suspended. I have discussed with the Chief Minister and he has shown his support in this regard.”

These comments were a follow up to the Supreme Court banning alcohol in the country up to 500 meters away from the National Highways. After the ruling by the SC, 3,200 liquor vendors in and around Goa were given notice to shut down by the Excise Commission.

Well, only time will tell how this night party ban will shape up as Goa is a famous destination for party goers and the decision might affect tourism in the State!
