On Wednesday, Honeypreet Insaan was remanded to police custody for six days by a court in Panchkula. This comes after her arrest the previous day by the Haryana police.

During the hearing, the prosecution demanded 10 days of police custody as Honeypreet was the closest aide to Ram Rahim. The prosecution also argued that she would be aware of the activities of the sect and the role in the violence at Panchkula.

Honeypreet’s counsel opposed the police remand but after the hearing, it was declared that she would be sent to six days of police custody.

Local news channels have reported Honeypreet has been charged under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 121B (waging or attempting (to) wage war against Govt., of India.) She has also been charged under sections 151 (knowingly joining or continuing in assembly of five or more persons after it has been commanded to disperse,) 152 (assaulting or obstructing public servant when suppressing riot, etc.,) and 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot.)

Honeypreet was a fugitive for a total of 38 days and on Tuesday night Haryana police caught her on the Zirakpur Patiala Highway.

After her arrest, the “adopted daughter” of Ram Rahim was questioned for several hours after which one of the police stated, “She was evasive in her replies about her whereabouts and her role in inciting violence and providing funding to those behind the violence. We are interrogating her and will seek her police remand.”

Honeypreet was arrested along with Sukhdeep Kaur a woman accomplice for harboring a fugitive.
