After being in the news for defaming Allopathy medicine, Baba Ramdev once again made headlines.

On the 26th of May, once again, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev was served a defamation notice by the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) Uttarakhand division. The defamation suit was filed after Baba Ramdev sent a letter to the IMA Uttarakhand, questioning the efficacy of Allopathy medicines.

He sent a list of 25 questions to the IMA, which included questions and posted the same on his Twitter handle.

Reacting to the same, the IMA said if Ramdev does not post a video countering his statements and tender a written apology within 15 days then they would file a defamation case demanding Rs. 1,000 crores.

The six page notice described the remarks by Baba Ramdev as damaging to the reputation and the image of Allopathy and around 2000 practitioners, who are part of the association. The IMA also claimed Baba Ramdev’s remark to be a “criminal act” under section 499 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

Dr. Ajay Khanna, the President of the IMA’s Uttarakhand Unit said, “I am ready for face to face with Baba Ramdev. Ramdev does not have a lot of knowledge about allopathy, despite that he is against allopathy and the doctors associated with it. He is making rhetorical statements.” He further said, “Ramdev is constantly lying to sell his medicines.”

The issue between the Patanjali Founder Baba Ramdev and the IMA started from the 21st of May, when in a video Yoga guru Ramdev said “Allopathy is a stupid science.”

Though he tendered an apology for his statement, he again sent a letter to the IMA, asking the efficacy of Allopathy.

Baba Ramdev is yet to respond to the Rs. 1,000 crore defamation notice sent to him.
