India Becomes First Nation To Report 80,000 Single Day Spike Of COVID-19 Cases 

 On the 31st of August, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) updated the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases in India. 

According to the MoHFW website, India reported 78,512 new cases with 971 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With this India also became the first nation to report 80,000 single day spike of COVID-19 infection.

With these updates, total positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus are 3.62 millions or 36,21,245 and death cases stand at 64,469.

Of the total positive cases, 27,74,801 are recovered or discharged cases and 7,81,975 are active cases.

Though India’s single day spike is higher than United States of America and Brazil, two worst COVID-19 hit nations, mortality rate is less.

The mortality rates of the U.S.A., and Brazil are 3.03 % and 3.13 % respectively. Whereas, India’s mortality rate is 1.78 %. Globally, the mortality rate of the Novel Coronavirus is 5 %.

In India, worst COVID-19 hit states are: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

Though Andhra Pradesh is third worst COVID-19 hit State, the State is on second position in terms of active cases.

After Maharashtra with 1,93,548 cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh which has 99,129 cases.

Speaking about the everyday rise in COVID-19 cases, Dr. Samiran Panda, the Head Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR,) said, “It is happening in some pockets and among groups where there is an intermixing of the susceptible population and asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic cases which is leading to a transmission of the disease. So, efforts have to be made to interrupt this transmission in these pockets.”

The ICMR also confirmed as many as 10.5 lakhs test, taking the total test to 4.14 crores till the 31st of August.
