On the 23rd of June, India crossed the milestone of vaccinating 29 crore people against the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)
The Union Health Ministry confirmed to vaccinate 29,46,39,511 people in India till Wednesday, the 23rd of June. In the past 24 hours, more than 53.4 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the past 24 hours.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW,) over 32,81,562 vaccine doses were administered as first dose and 71,655 vaccine doses given as second dose in the age group 18 to 44 years old, on the 22nd of June. In addition, cumulatively, over 6,55,38,687 people in the same age group across 37 states and UTs received their first dose and over 14,24,612 have received their second dose since the 21st of June, when the phase 3 of the vaccination drive started.
Speaking briefly, the Union Ministry said, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have administered more than 10 lakh beneficiaries of the age group 18 to 44 years for the first dose of COVID vaccine.
Meanwhile, the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive started from the 16th of January 2021 across India. The Central Government is providing two India made vaccines, the Serum Institute of India (SII) made Covishield and the Bharat Biotech International Private Limited manufactured COVAXIN to Indian states.
The Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed millions of vaccine doses to Indian states and union territories (UTs.)
