India has handed over ₹290 crore to Bhutan to support development projects under the Himalayan nation’s 13th Five Year Plan.
The funds were handed over to Bhutan’s Ministry of Finance during the 19th Monthly Coordination Meeting in Thimphu on Tuesday. Officials from both countries reviewed ongoing projects and discussed future plans.
The funding will support several areas, including education, healthcare, digital skills, infrastructure and renewable energy. Projects include better facilities at colleges, teacher training programmes, school improvements and hospital upgrades.
India is also supporting the construction of new bridges, government offices and a district court in Bhutan. Plans include the purchase of 100 electric cars for official use and 45 electric buses for public transport.
The meeting also reviewed renewable energy projects and the development of a 200-bed cancer hospital and a 430-bed facility at existing hospitals in Thimphu.
India and Bhutan reaffirmed their continued cooperation to complete the projects and support Bhutan’s development goals.
The funding is part of India’s commitment to assist Bhutan under its current five-year development plan.
