On the 21st of October, historic monuments in Telangana were lit up in tricolor to mark the celebration of the 1 billion mark of vaccine doses.

On the 21st of October, India crossed the 1 billion (100 crore) mark of administering the Wuhan virus (COVID-19) vaccine doses. So far, the Indian Health Department administered over 100 crore vaccination doses and touched the 100 crore landmark on Thursday. Monuments like Charminar, Golkonda and other attractions were illuminated in the colours of the Indian flag, Saffron-White-Green. The exercise was done as part of The Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) initiative to illuminate 100 monuments in the colours of the national flag across India.

Historic places like Ramappa Temple, which was recently declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Warangal Fort were also lit up to mark the milestone in Telangana.

Across India, a total of 100 monuments in the colours of the Indian flag were lit to celebrate the landmark milestone of 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses given to the people.

The 100 monuments were lit the entire night of the 21st of October. The illumination took place as a mark of respect and gratitude to the front line Coronavirus warriors who have contributed relentlessly in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 100 monuments being lit up in Tricolour include Unesco World Heritage Sites — the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar in Delhi, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, Konark Temple in Odisha, Mamallapuram Rath temples in Tamil Nadu, St. Francis of Assisi Church in Goa, Khajuraho, the forts of Chittor and Kumbhalgarh in Rajasthan, the excavated ruins of the ancient Nalanda University in Bihar and Dholavira (recently accorded world heritage status) in Gujarat.

With this, India becomes the second nation to cross the 1 billion milestone in administering COVID-19 doses. The first nation to cross that milestone is China, which administered 100 crore COVID-19 doses in June 2021.
