Indian Railways Suspends Passenger Trains, Bookings Cancelled Till 30th Of June

On the 14th of May, the Indian Railways announced to suspend all the passenger trains till further notice.

After announcing the resumption of 15 special trains, the immediate decision to suspend the trains might be due to the increasing number of the Novel Coronavirus cases in India.  In the last 24 hours, India reported 3,500 cases of the Novel Coronavirus, taking the tally to 78,003 cases.

In regard to this, the Indian Railways issued a notice which read, “The Railways has cancelled all tickets for passenger trains, including mail, express and suburban services, for journeys booked up to and including June 30.  A full refund will be given to all passengers whose tickets have been cancelled.”

 Passenger trains in India have been suspended since the 24th of March in the wake of pandemic crisis and nation wide lockdown.

Recently, the Indian Railways resumed 30 special passenger train services this week connecting Delhi and other major cities in India.  However, with this announcement, those trains would also be suspended.    

The only trains which would run during the 4th lockdown would be the special Shramik Express for the migrant workers in India.  Till now, the Indian Railways ran 642 Shramik Express trains which transported 7.9 lakh migrants across India.
