The Indian railways, on the 19th of May, announced to begin passenger train services from the 1st of June.

Initially, the Indian Railways would run only 200 non AC special passenger trains per day and would increase the numbers with time in coming days.

Passengers need to book tickets online on the IRCTC website or its app, as counter ticket booking would remain suspended until further notice.

The dates to book online tickets is yet to be announced.

The decision to resume passenger train services were taken to help stranded people in different cities and would mostly cover long distance routes and small cities.

Physical distancing, face masks, sanitisers and thermal screening of the passengers would be mandatory before entering the railway stations.

However, the special Shramik Express trains run for shifting of migrants would continue irrespective of 200 announced trains by the Indian Railway Ministry.

Piyush Goyal, the Railway Minister of India, took to Twitter and said, “Great relief for the workers, about 200 labourers special trains will be able to run on this day, and later these numbers will be increased on a large scale.  Apart from this, Indian Railways will run 200 non AC trains daily as per the time table from June 1, whose online booking will start soon.” He further added, “Workers are requested to stay in their place, soon Indian Railways will take them to the destination.” 

While the non AC passenger trains would begin from the 1st of June, the special Shramik Express would continue to run.
