Another day and India witnesses big spike in the cases of the Novel Coronavirus.

The number of coronavirus positive cases reached a total of 3,66,946 on the 18th of June.

The Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 18th of June, confirmed 12,881 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.  While total positive cases reached a total of 3,66,946, death cases crossed 12,000 and stood at 12,237 with 334 new deaths in the past 24 hours. 

With these updates,there are 1,60,384 active cases and 1,94,324 cured/discharged cases. 

It is a matter of concern for officials as in the month of June, India is witnessing an everyday spike, more than 10,000.  

Meanwhile, where fatalities were as less as 70 during the month of March, it has now reached a total of 12,000 plus deceased.

India’s case fatality rate (CFR) or the proportion of death to the total number of cases has gone up to 3.4% from 2.9% with the jump in the death toll.

In regard to the Coronavirus situation in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a meeting with chief ministers of Indian states. 

During the meeting, Mr. Modi discussed the ongoing situation, precautionary measures and other issues due to the pandemic crisis, the Novel Coronavirus. 

Despite the increasing number of cases and fatalities, the Indian Government is planning to impose Unlock 2.0.

Mr. Modi during the meeting asked all the chief ministers to prepare for the second phase of Unlock in India. 

PM Modi also said the infection is spreading fast in big cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and others rather than rural areas. 

In regard to this, PM Modi urged the CMs of respective Indian states to consider the matter and make necessary arrangements for reopening under Unlock 2.0.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also took part in the second round of the virtual meetings with chief ministers of Indian states. 

The first phase of Unlock 1.0., is till the 30th of June, following which the additional Unlock 2.0., would likely be imposed. 

Meanwhile, speaking about containment zones for the spread of the Coronavirus, the containment zones are likely to continue the lockdown till the 30th of June.
