In an encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, the security forces killed a member of The Resistance Front (TRF.)
TRF is an offshoot of the terror outfit Lashkar e Taiba (LeT.) According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the encounter broke out on the 7th of February, Monday, following which they killed Ifran Ahmad Sheikh, the TRF member.
A police spokesperson said, “Based on a specific input, a raid was conducted by a small team of police in the Nambal area of Awantipora. During the raid, the hiding terrorist started firing indiscriminately upon the police party which was retaliated. In the meantime, reinforcements of 42RR immediately reached the encounter site. In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed.” The spokesperson further said, “The killed terrorist was a categorized terrorist and was involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. He was also providing logistics and other support to the active terrorists operating in the area before joining the terror ranks. Incriminating arms and ammunition, including a pistol, were recovered from the site of the encounter.”
It is to be noted, the killed terrorist was a teenager, who was missing since the 17th of January. His missing grew suspicion that he might have joined the TRF and LeT outfit.
