Ajoy Kumar, the former President of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) of the Indian National Congress (INC,) joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.
On the 19th of September, Ajoy Kumar joined the AAP in the presence of Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP leaders. Mr. Sisodia presented Kumar with the Party shawl and welcomed him as a member of the AAP.
The AAP leaders said the Party “warmly welcomes the MBBS who comes from South Indian roots, cut across the lines of caste, region to serve in Bihar, Jharkhand in various capacities.”
During the occasion, Ajoy Kumar said, “I want to do honest politics and work for the welfare of the people.”
On the 9th of August, Ajoy Kumar resigned from the post of Jharkhand’s INC Chief and quit the Party due to issues with a few State leaders. He also said “worst criminals looked better” than these leaders.
Ajoy said, “My zero tolerance for corruption and any form of mediocrity, hampers me from doing my job effectively. Accordingly, please accept this as my formal letter of resignation as the president of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee.”
Kumar submitted his resignation letter to Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the INC.
As of now, Rameshwar Oraon is the President of the JPCC. Rameshwar is one of the leaders criticised by Ajoy Kumar for corruption.
The internal dispute amongst the INC leaders in Jharkhand and the loss of a member, especially when the Jharkhand Assembly elections are due in 2019, is a major drawback for the INC.
