On Wednesday, late at night, the Kashmir Police arrested separatist leader Asiya Andrabi. The police took heavy forces, along with SHO arrested Asiya from her residence at 11:30 P.M., in Soura.
Andrabi is a member of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and also the founder of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM). DeM are known for issuing dikats (caution notices,) in Kashmir to the things and issues that Andrabi and Hafiz Saeed, leader of Jamaat-Ud-Dawa, consider as unIslamic.
Andrabi’s husband Ashiq Hussain Faktoo is presently in jail and is a leader of the Hizbul Mujahideen. A few terrorists who have been captured have confessed their crimes, and said that her videos were featured at the terror training camps in Pakistan and across the Line of Control.
Andrabi was previously arrested twice in 2015 for giving speeches via phone, at her husband’s rally in Pakistan for recruiting members into the Mujahideen. The second charge against her is for waving the flag of Pakistan.
The arrest of Andrabi on Wednesday night came hours before the attack of militants on Army camp in the Kupwara district, wherein three soldiers were killed. This attack, which is considered a second major attack in two weeks, also claimed the lives of two militants.
