Kerala – Novel Coronavirus Declared State Disaster

The Kerala Government, on the 3rd of February, declared the Novel Coronavirus a ‘State disaster.’  

After the State Health Department confirmed three positive cases of the deadly Coronavirus, the State Government announced the disease is a ‘State calamity.’

While the other two patients were kept in isolation at a Kerala hospital, the third patient who tested positive for Coronavirus, a student of a Wuhan university, is undergoing treatment at the Kanhangad District Hospital.  His condition is said to be stable so far.

K.K. Shailaja, the Health Minister of Kerala, urged all the hospitals in the State to be on alert and speed up the process of testing residents.

Approximately 2,239 people are said to be showing symptoms of Novel Coronavirus.  While 84 people are being observed at hospitals, the remaining are quarantined at their residences. 

The deadly Novel Coronavirus, which first affected China, now spread to 25 other countries, including India.

So far, the Novel Coronavirus killed 400 plus people in China and infected more than 17,000 people in Wuhan, China.
