Kuldeep Nayyar, an eminent Indian journalist passed away in New Delhi at the age of 95. Mr. Nayyar was born in Sialkot, Pakistan in 1923 but was among the Punjabi’s who moved to India after the partition.
Nayyar was one of the first journalists to be put in jail when the emergency was declared under Indira Gandhi’s reign. Mr. Nayyar found for peace between India and Pakistan.
Mr. Nayyar served as the High Commissioner of India to the U.K. He was also appointed as a member of the Rajya Sabha. This resilient journalist documented human rights violations by the State in great detail during his career.
The funeral will be held at the Lodhi Road crematorium in New Delhi at 1 P.M., today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter to pay their final respects to Mr. Nayyar.
