The Mumbai floods killed nearly 164 people and left many people injured. The figures of the victims in the flood, which ravaged parts of Maharashtra and Mumbai, were confirmed by the State Government. Besides deaths due to floods, a total 164 people also died due to rain related accidents including landslides, road accidents and building collapse accidents.

On the 24th of July, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released a statement and confirmed the same. The CMO also said areas like Raigad, Ratnagiri districts in the coastal Konkan region and Kolhapur district in western Maharashtra, have been worst affected by the floods. In addition, the State has been witnessing heavy rain since the past few days.

On the 26th of July, Monday, the Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Department said, “About 2 .29 lakh people have been evacuated from the flood-hit areas. A total of 164 deaths have been reported and 25,564 animals have died. A total of 56 people were injured and 100 are still missing from the 1,028 villages affected.”

All the aforementioned incidents have happened in the few days due to the uncontrollable rain situation in Maharashtra. Although the Government of Maharashtra evacuated 90,000 people, many people are still stuck in low lying areas. Adding to the humans, approximately 75 animals have also perished.

To take a review of the situation, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray visited the flood hit areas in Raigad, Taliye village and other low lying areas.

The CM also instructed the concerned officials to continue the rescue operation in the State. The CM also announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the families who lost their kin in the flood and for the injured, the hospital treatment would be borne by the Government of Maharashtra.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are continuing the rescue operation. In addition, six teams of the Indian Army and the Indian Navy would reach Maharashtra to help in the ongoing rescue operation.
