The Government of India (GoI,) is mulling to announce reopening of metro services in Unlock 4.0.

Officials said that under the provisions of Unlock 4.0., the Central Government is likely to allow metro services to operate.

According to sources, The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) would soon release guidelines of Unlock 4.0., the fourth phase of opening up of lockdown.

As per sources, the fourth phase of the Unlock is likely to be implemented from the 1st of September.

In the fourth phase, metro services, bars for serving and take away and others would be allowed. However, schools, educational institutions and colleges would not be open in the Unlock 4.0.

The decision of the Central Government comes a day after Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi urged to reopen services. Mr. Kejriwal said, “I have requested the Centre that Delhi should be treated differently. The Novel Coronavirus situation is improving in Delhi. If they do not want to run Metro trains in other cities, let it be so. But, in Delhi Metro train services should be started in a phased manner on a trial basis. We have raised this issue before the Centre many times, I hope the Centre will soon take a decision in this regard.”

In the past few months, the Delhi Metro, one of the busy metros of India, suffered a loss of nearly Rs. 1,300 crores.

The third phase of Unlock 3.0. is until the 31st of August.

Stay tuned for further updates.
