New Delhi: Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana chief minister said that “Muslims can continue to live in this country, but they will have to give up eating beef” because “the cow is an article of faith here.”
In an interview Khattar said, “the Gita and Saraswati were articles of faith for the majority in the country and that Muslims would not be violating their religious beliefs by giving up beef.”
After this, the Haryana chief minister mention that the Dadri lynching incident as wrong and the result of a misunderstanding.
Reverting to the Khattar statement, Muslim cleric Mufti Mukarram said, “Unko apne hadd me rehna chahiye (he should stay in his limits)”.
Khattar, a first-time MLA from Karnal, known for his simple lifestyle and clean image, had taken oath as the Haryana chief minister on October 26 last year.
