Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 5th of December, conducted a meeting with the Union ministers over the ongoing farmer protests.

The meeting was held hours before the fifth round of talks between the Central Government and protesters were scheduled. In the past, the farmers’ unions/organisations conducted a total of four rounds of talks with the Central Government.

However, all the negotiations and meetings failed to break the protest of the farmers.

The farmers of Haryana and Punjab are protesting against the three farm bills passed by the Union Government.

The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister Amit Shah and the Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.

Today’s meeting came a day after the Union Government accepted to consider amendments to the three farm bills.

During the meeting, PM Modi was briefed about the changes in the contentious laws at the first such meeting at his house over the protests.

Meanwhile, the farmers of Haryana and Punjab who were protesting in New Delhi, called for a nationwide strike on the 8th of December.

The farmers have been continuing their agitation since the 25th of November, titled as “Chalo Dilli.”

On the 8th of December, farmers across the Nation would block all toll plazas and roads leading to Delhi as they hardened their position ahead of the fifth round of talks with the Central Government, scheduled for today, the 5th of December.

Speaking about the outrage of the farmers, a leader of a farmer’s union said the farmers would burn effigies of the Government and corporate houses on the 5th of December, sportspersons would return their medals in solidarity with the farmers on the 7th of December and there would be a Bharat Bandh on the 8th of December.

Another round of talks between the farmer’s unions and the Central Government is scheduled today, the 5th of December at 2:00 P.M.

The meeting would be between Union RailwayMinister Piyush Goyal and Narendra Singh Tomar, scheduled to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
