Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the term of both Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) chiefs by one year.
The announcement was made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government on the 27th of May. Considering the performance of the both chiefs, the Government of India extended their tenures by one more year. With this, the RAW chief and the IB chief would retire on the 30th of June 2022.
While RAW chief Samant Kumar Goel has been keeping a keen watch of the India neighbourhood, the IB chief Arvind Kumar has been monitoring Maoists, terror networks and political protests in India.
Both the chiefs, Samant Kumar and Arvind Kumar are the Indian Public Service (IPS) officers of the 1984 Punjab and Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
Highlighting the work front of the RAW and the IB chiefs, Samanta Kumar Goel has been a hard-core operations man, while Arvind Kumar is known for political reading of the internal situation. Both of them work under the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
While the government remains tight-lipped over RAW activities, the IB has been giving active feedback to the government on internal security situations including political protests, Maoist activities and terror networks.
