On International Yoga Day, the 21st of June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the M Yoga application in India and celebrated World Yoga Day.
Due to the Wuhan Virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, this year the celebration was held virtually. The Union Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) conducted the programme which began at 6:30 A.M., and was attended by PM Modi and Union Minister of State for AYUSH Kiran Rijiju.
On the 7th International Yoga Day celebration in India, the Central Government launched the M Yoga app. PM Modi announced that India, along with the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organisation (WHO, is launching an app called M Yoga. The application would provide easy access to Yogic practice all over the world. Mr. Modi said, “In collaboration with WHO, India has taken another important step. We will be launching the mYoga app which will have yoga training videos in different languages for people across the world. This will help us achieve our ‘One World, One Health’ motto.”
After the launch, Prime Minister Naredra Modi and Union Minister Kiran Rijiju addressed the nation.
During his address, PM Modi said images from various parts of the country have started emerging, showing people marking the World Yoga Day by practicing Yoga in small groups. He said, “Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps in maintaining physical and mental well being, and over the years, it has found popularity in other countries as well.”
In 2014, the Indian Government proposed 21st of June to mark the International Yoga Day at the UN General Assembly. The proposal was later endorsed by 175 member states, following which the day was marked to celebrate Yoga across the globe.
