On the 30th of August, Monday Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, extended Krishna Janmashtami greetings to the people of India.

On Monday, the 30th of August, India is celebrating Krishna Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna. Marking the occasion, Mr. Narendra Modi tweeted, “Greetings to you all on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. Jai Shree Krishna.”

In addition, Mr. Modi highlighted the Indian traditions and occasion of Krishna Janmashtami in his radio show, Mann ki Baat. On the 30th of August, he also completed the 80th edition of the monthly radio show, hosted by the Prime Minister of India.

In his show, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “The festival of Janmashtami is the festival of the birth of Lord Krishna. We are familiar with all the forms of Bhagwan, from naughty Kanhaiya to the one taking Colossal form Krishna, from the one well versed in scriptures to one skilled in weaponry. Be it art, beauty, charm, where all is not Krishna there! But I am saying all this because a few days before Janmashtami I had gone through an interesting experience. So I felt I should talk about this to you. You must be aware that on the 20th of this month the construction work related to Bhagwan Somnath temple has been dedicated to the people.”

Besides PM Modi, the President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, the Vice President of India Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu and other political leaders also extended Krishna Janmashtami greetings to the people of India through the micro blogging site, Twitter.

President Ram Nath Kovind: “जन्‍माष्‍टमी के शुभ अवसर पर सभी देशवासियों को हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं।

यह पर्व भगवान श्री कृष्‍ण के जीवन-चरित के बारे में जानने और उनके संदेशों के प्रति स्वयं को समर्पित करने का अवसर है।

मेरी कामना है कि यह त्योहार सभी के जीवन में सुख, स्वास्थ्य तथा समृद्धि का संचार करे।”

M. Venkaiah Naidu:

“On this auspicious day, let us all resolve to perform our duties with utmost sincerity and to walk the path of righteousness.

May this Janmashtami bring peace, harmony and prosperity in our country. #LordKrishna #Janmashtmi.”

Meanwhile, people across India would celebrate the day as a grand event and would keep fast for the entire day. After offering prayers at midnight, the auspicious time of Lord Krishna’s birth and would break their day long fast.

As per the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra and celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami.
